The Department of Posts, Ministry of Communications, Government of India, has released the notification (No. 17-37/2025-GDS) for the engagement of Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDS). Applications are invited for the posts of Branch Postmaster (BPM), Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM), and Dak Sevaks across various Circles in India.

About the Institution

India Post is one of the oldest and largest postal networks in the world. The Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS) engagement is a unique scheme where selected candidates serve mostly in rural areas to render postal services. GDS holders occupy Civil Posts but are outside the regular Civil Services of the Union of India. They work for a minimum of 4 hours and a maximum of 5 hours a day. The scheme includes social security benefits like GDS Gratuity and Service Discharge Benefit Scheme. This is an excellent opportunity for candidates seeking to serve the community in rural India.

I. Job Profile & Pay Scales (TRCA)

The emoluments are paid as Time Related Continuity Allowance (TRCA) plus Dearness Allowance.

Roles:

  • BPM: Managing Branch Post Office, IPPB transactions, marketing.

II. Eligibility Criteria

IV. Selection Process
  • Selection is based on a system-generated Merit List.
  • Merit is determined by marks obtained in the 10th Standard (aggregated to percentage to 4 decimals).
  • No written examination or interview will be conducted.
  • For boards awarding Grades/Points, conversion to marks is done using a multiplication factor of 9.5.

Application Procedure

  • Visit the official GDS Online Engagement Portal: indiapost.gov.in/gdsonlineengagement.
  • Complete the One-Time Registration (OTR) using an active Mobile Number and Email ID.
  • Log in using the Registration Number and fill out the Online Application Form.
  • Select the Division and exercise preferences for the eligible posts.
  • Upload recent Photograph (JPG, 30-100 KB) and Signature (JPG, 20-100 KB).
  • Pay the application fee (Rs. 100/-) online, if applicable.
  • Submit the application and take a printout for future reference.
  • Note: An edit window will be available from 18.02.2026 to 19.02.2026 for corrections.
